    • Find out the important scientists who contributed to our current knowledge of the atom.
    • Find out the important experiments that were used to make breakthrough discoveries.
    • Include years of each discovery/experiment so we can get an idea of how long this process has taken.
  2. Atomic Structure (5pts)
    • What are the different parts of the atom?
    • What are the different particles that make up the atom?
    • Where are they located?
    • What makes atoms of different elements different?

The first people to theorize, rather than discover the existence of atoms, were the 5th century B.C philosophers Democritus and Leucippus. Ernst Rutherford was the first to actually prove that atoms existed through his research in the 19th century.
The first person to say there might be atoms was a Greek called Democritus. It wasn't until John Dalton came along in the early 1800s and explain how we could use atoms.
